Watch the Past Come to Life

Historical Society volunteers bring the past to life through living history programs. Contact the Society today and join us for the next historic event.

Indiana County is the hometown of actors, artists, and Christmas trees famous the world over. It’s also home to inventors, political leaders, and military heroes. But its real story is told through everyday working people - miners, lumbermen, factory workers, pioneer mothers, nurses, and “home-front” heroes.

The Historical and Genealogical Society of Indiana County is dedicated to preserving this dynamic history. Nestled in the heart of Indiana at the intersection of South 6th Street and Wayne Avenue, the HGSIC operates in two buildings, the Clark House and the Armory, both on the National Register of Historic Places.

Enter the Clark House and step back into the Victorian era. The house has two restored parlors with period furniture and artifacts. Join the Clarks for a guided tour of the home.  It also hosts a variety of programs throughout the year including Ladies Teas and the annual Christmas Open House.

Inside the Armory, experience the vibrant history of Indiana County through artifacts and memorabilia in the Historical Museum. Join us in honoring the thousands of Indiana County men and women who served in conflicts from the Revolutionary War to the present day in the Memorial to the Veterans. Searching for your ancestors? The Helman Library is a genealogical and county history research library that serves thousands of patrons each year.
